Through the eyes of an expert: How Booksie contributes to children's development

05/03/2023

Few doubt that reading literacy is an important key competence not only for school success. In addition, we (passionate) readers know that a book can be another dimension of our life: colorful, cheerful, deep... It will help us to know more and better, to experience more intensively. And sometimes we just need to escape so that we can return to reality full of energy, inspired and inspiring...

The question is when to start reading education. The answer is clear: as soon as possible. The author of the Friends box with a book obviously knows this. However, I must admit that when unpacking the box I was not only curious, but also slightly skeptical. Won't the cute box just be a marketing ploy for embarrassed relatives who don't know what to choose as a sufficient, yet neutral gift?

What is the advantage of A friend with a book

Part of the box is a brochure for parents, where the author, Ms. Andrle, clearly, clearly and gently offers how to work with the product. This is valuable because pre-literacy education requires our activity. Giving the child the individual components without our participation simply won't work... Thus, already at the child's early age, the box fulfills one of the goals of pre-reading literacy, which is to give parents stimuli on how to work with the child and to be aware of the connection between these initial activities and later education.

The main book Sophie and the Bow opens the story. Other activities continue in the books Animals, My Body and First Words. Each of these books leads to other activities - the ones described, but creative parents can certainly do others as well. The box therefore consists of many components and in order to be able to use them in the future, everything must be stored in the right bag and then in the box. So the child also learns order (and begins to understand why it is so...).

As part of the development of reading literacy, during individual activities, an adult works with the child on the development of his vocabulary, understanding, orientation in space, but later also in time, develops sensory perception, here with an emphasis on sight and hearing (in unguarded moments, also taste😊), they strengthen the child's memory and thinking.

The activity that comes into our hands quite naturally fulfills all didactic principles: the activity of the child and the vividness of what is learned, it is also based on the principle of consistency, sequence, adequacy and feedback. It supports the child's need to perceive the world, supports purposefulness: what we can do today and what we will talk about tomorrow. It is created in such a way that the child can progress only when he has mastered part of the knowledge. This requires his activity and attention. The author fulfilled the principle of appropriateness not only by the way she compiled it, but also in her opening statement, when she warns parents about the tabular assumptions about the child's development.

Above all principles, however, is the bond that a parent creates with a child during joint activities, when thinking together and experiencing success and appreciation. And also the knowledge that you have given your child a wonderful start to reading literacy, and therefore to finding a secret path to the forests of Hogwarts, schools in Hogwarts or trips to the outer galaxies. Or, for example, to improve our world...

The box is a clever, well-thought-out activity that mom came up with when she was short of something like that on the market. And I would gladly recommend it to other mothers, fathers (and us future grandmothers).
